As we age and go through a lot of unexpectedly disappointing
time over the years, it is getting harder to stay positive all the time,
worrying about tomorrow. Whenever, we are in the throes of some difficulty or
hardships in life, people say that we are supposed to live in the moment and
savor every minute of it to the fullest. Yes, it is good to free ourselves from
unnecessary concerns or bitter obligations through being into the “here and now”. Well, as this type
of belief settles into our mind, we feel happy, laid-back, less worried or self-conscious, and ……… can even get to
the point of being totally “carefree” and going overboard without thinking
about basic things to keep us stay sane or healthy.
I have met some people at the local gym, (who later became
my close friends) who say they used to be like “all-or-nothing” kind of eaters. That is, one day they ate
everything in sight without control like there’d be no tomorrow and then the
next day they found themselves floundering
into deep regrets and self-hate, looking at their bloated belly in the mirror.
So they started a painful fast – not
a religious one that was done so faithfully – to lose their beer belly, muffin top, bat wings,
and thunder thighs created by
overeating. As time went by, they felt so morose
and miserable and their plump body was no more responding to their intentional
short-term famine anymore. In a nutshell, they used to eat like a horse one day
and pray for a slim body the next day through a variety of fad diets, which was so detrimental
to both of their physical and mental health. They finally found the answer
to the big question in life ‘How should we live to stay happy?’: Living in moderation! Whether it is sadness or
blessing, hearty meals or a night-time snack, let us not go to extremes but
rather indulge in them in the right amount so as we feel good about ourselves.
As long as we live in moderation, there would be no strict “verboten” things to eat such as potato
chips or glazed donuts in our lives. Just eat now like there will be a ton of
other mouth-watering feasts in store of us tomorrow!
