Let's go back in times to learn slang expressionns

Language is not a fixed part of your culture. It is always in the progress of changing, evolving, dying, and newly coined. Today, let us go back to the 1990s to see what slang or idiomatic expressions were frequently used and heard. Try to fill in the blanks!

 





1.   : How did you like the movie? 

B: Oh, it was da  _________!!! (*meaning that “cool; excellent; terrific”) 

 

    2.   A: My daughter won her age group in the half-marathon yesterday!

B: Holy moly! B______________!!! (*meaning an exclamation used to celebrate victory or express elation/ excitement)

 

    3.   A: Got any plans for this weekend?

B: Nope, I’m just gonna ch____________ Like a Villain.

(* a phrase meaning to relax and take it easy, popularised by the show Batman)

 

    4.  Do you really think his new novel is all _________ ? (* meaning extremely good; impressive)

 

    5.  Jennifer is p_________! (*meaning great; beautiful; terrific; Pretty Hot And Tempting) She got that irreplaceable smile and lovely almond eyes!

 

    6.  Everybody says Kevin is such a scr_________ (*meaning somebody who is looked down upon by other people or who doesn’t offer much because they lack skills or attitude), but I see something special in him. I don’t want them to think less of him.

 

    7.  The book club is not what you can imagine. It’s do______ and kickin’ (*meaning cool, exciting, and excellent) in every way! People there are so open-minded and bubbly.

 

    8.  A: I saw your girlfriend with another guy at the club last night. Haha….Ps_______! (*an expression used to indicate that you were joking or to fake someone out.)

 

    9.  The streets in downtown area look so sk____________.(*meaning unsafe or suspicious) I don’t think it’s a good idea to hang around there at night.  

 

    10.              A: Who’s gonna take the last cookie from the jar?

          B: D____s on it! (*an expression to uuse if you want to claim something is yours, the fastest way to do it would be just saying it.)

  The Grammar Rules Are Evolving or Becoming Extinct! Are you hairsplitting grammar police based on the existing/ traditional prescriptive grammar or gravitating more towards casual/ colloquial descriptive grammar? As we are living in the era of myriads of fast-paced communication venues such as instant text messages and lots of online conversations, languages and their grammar rules are fast evolving today. English is no the exception. Let us go over some of the English grammar rules that people ignore quite often times and are normally accepted today.
